At the door, the uniform is also your proof of identity. Customers are told to be wary of strangers, so a clearly branded driver gets a parcel signed for, not ignored.
Cab warm, doorstep cold
The van heater is on, the door opens, the rain comes in. Heavy padded coats are too hot to drive in and get taken off and forgotten. A gilet over a long-sleeve polo keeps the core warm and leaves arms free for steering and carrying.
For proper rain, a lightweight waterproof that packs behind the seat is better than one big coat. Look for EN 343 rated rainwear if drivers are out in all weathers.
Shorts in December
Many couriers wear shorts year-round because wet trousers stuck to the legs are worse than cold knees. Work shorts with a phone or scanner pocket and a tough seat suit the constant climbing in and out of the cab.
Give drivers the choice of shorts or trousers. The logo and colour keep the team consistent, and drivers stay comfortable. Pockets should close.
Depots, yards and roadside
Loading at a depot often means working near reversing vans and forklifts. Most depots require hi-vis in the yard. A branded hi-vis vest kept in the cab also helps on roadside drops. Check your depot's site rules for the class needed.
Footwear takes a battering. Light safety trainers with a grippy sole handle wet steps and metal van floors; toe protection helps when moving heavy parcels.
Where to put your logo
Put an embroidered logo on the left chest of polos and gilets, where the customer sees it at the door. A large printed logo across the back of jackets and gilets helps when a driver walks away up the street. On hi-vis vests, print on the fluorescent fabric only; keep clear of the reflective tape and keep logos sensible in size so the vest stays compliant. Match the van livery colours so the whole operation looks joined up.
Ordering for couriers and delivery drivers
Most couriers and delivery drivers start with workwear polo shirts, padded gilets and waterproof jackets. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
