Practices also juggle very different roles: dentists, nurses, hygienists, therapists, receptionists and practice managers. Each benefits from a look patients can read. Mixing them up confuses patients standing at the front desk.
Aerosols, splashes and infection control
Drilling and scaling create aerosols and splatter. Clinical staff need uniforms that are changed often and laundered to your practice's infection control policy, with short sleeves to support hand hygiene. Scrubs and tunics in polycotton or stretch fabric cope with daily hot washing.
Gowns, masks and eye protection are clinical PPE managed by the practice. The uniform underneath should be simple and free of loose items.
Calming nervous patients
Colour has an effect. Many practices pick soft blues, teals or greys over stark white, which some anxious patients associate with hospitals. Matching the uniform to the décor of the waiting room creates a joined-up, reassuring feel.
Names embroidered on tunics help patients put a name to the person treating them, which builds trust over repeat visits. Patients remember names more than colours.
Who wears what
A simple colour code makes the practice run smoothly and helps patients know who is clinical and who handles bookings and payment. It also helps new starters settle in.
- Dentists: tunic or scrubs in a deep shade
- Dental nurses: scrubs or tunics in a lighter shade
- Hygienists and therapists: their own colour
- Reception: blouse, shirt or polo, with knitwear for the front desk
Colour coding the practice
Many practices use colour to show roles: one colour for dentists, another for nurses and a third for reception. Patients learn quickly who to ask, and it helps new staff settle in. Choose tunics and scrubs from the same range so the colours match exactly, and check each garment's washing temperature against your infection-control policy.
Where to put your logo
Embroider a small practice logo on the left chest of scrubs and tunics, and the staff member's name and role on the right. Embroidery looks clinical and professional and copes with hot washing. Keep thread colours calm, perhaps white or a pale tone on blue. Reception staff can carry the same logo on blouses and knitwear so the practice feels joined up from front desk to surgery. A proof is sent first.
Ordering for dental practices
Most dental practices start with scrubs, healthcare tunics and women's blouses. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
