Branded workwear for colleges and training providers

A college or training provider rarely buys one uniform. Construction learners need holster trousers and safety boots, catering students need chef whites, health and social care groups need tunics, and the staff at open days need something smart that marks them out. Each department has its own rules and its own budget holder.

Getting it right matters because learners are being trained for real workplaces. Kit that matches what employers expect on site, in a kitchen or on a ward is part of the lesson.

Dressing each vocational area

Workshop and construction courses should mirror site practice: hard-wearing trousers, a branded polo or sweatshirt, hi-vis where the risk assessment calls for it, and safety footwear to EN ISO 20345. Agree with the department which footwear rating they want, as a brickwork shop and an electrical installation room may differ.

Catering learners need chef jackets, trousers and hats that will go through a commercial wash. Hair, beauty and care learners need tunics in the colours their tutors use to separate year groups.

  • Construction and engineering: trousers, polos, hi-vis, safety boots
  • Catering and hospitality: chef jackets, aprons, skull caps
  • Hair, beauty and care: tunics in course colours

Starter kits for new learners

September enrolment brings a rush of new starters, often in sizes nobody guessed. A fixed starter kit per course makes ordering simple: one list per department, a size run collected at enrolment, then a single order. Learners who join late or change size can be added later.

Some providers put the kit list on a private online shop so learners, employers paying for apprentices or the student services team can order directly against the agreed range.

Staff, open days and outreach

Ambassadors and staff at open evenings, school visits and careers fairs need to be spotted across a busy hall. A bright quarter zip or polo with the college logo on the chest and a short message on the back, such as 'Ask me', does that job.

Branded tote bags and drawstring bags for prospectus packs carry the logo home with every visitor.

Where to put your logo

Embroider the college crest or logo on the left chest of polos, sweatshirts, chef jackets and tunics, where it survives years of washing. Add the course or department name under the logo so tutors can see who belongs in which workshop. On hi-vis, print on the fluorescent fabric only and keep reflective tape clear. For open-day staff, a large print on the back of a T-shirt or hoodie reads well across a crowded sports hall.

Ordering for colleges and training providers

Most colleges and training providers start with holster pocket trousers, safety boots and wellingtons and chef's jackets. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.

Questions

Questions from colleges and training providers

Can each department have its own kit list?

Yes. Each course can have its own garments, colours and logo text. A Client Wardrobe shop can show each department only the items it has agreed, which keeps budgets and ranges separate while the overall college branding stays consistent.

Who should pay for learner PPE?

That depends on your funding rules and policies, so check with your finance team. Where learners are employees, such as many apprentices, the employer generally has duties under the PPE at Work Regulations 1992. Your college should take its own advice on where the line falls.

How do we handle sizes for hundreds of new learners?

Collect sizes at enrolment against a size chart rather than guessing, and hold back a small spread of common sizes for late joiners. Women's fit options for polos and trousers reduce the number of returns.
