Each area needs different protection, and the estimator who meets the customer at the front needs to look smart enough to win the insurance work. Kit for each area should stay in that area.
The spray booth
Many vehicle refinish products contain isocyanates, which are a serious respiratory risk. Sprayers need the respiratory protection your risk assessment and the product data set out, often air-fed, along with a spray suit that covers skin and does not shed fibres into the paint.
Disposable or reusable low-lint spray suits keep dust off the finish. Ordinary cotton workwear sheds fibres, so keep it out of the booth.
Sanding and prep dust
Sanding filler and primer creates fine dust that settles in hair, clothes and lungs. Coveralls with closed cuffs, safety glasses and dust protection chosen by your risk assessment are the basics. Change out of dusty prep kit before going near the booth or customers' interiors.
Nitrile gloves keep filler, thinners and solvents off skin, and help stop grease from hands contaminating prepared panels.
Panel work and welding
Panel beaters work with sharp edges, grinders and spot or MIG welding. Cut-resistant gloves and safety glasses are standard. For welding, clothing to EN ISO 11611 protects against spatter better than polycotton, which can melt or catch. Check your risk assessment for the exact requirement. Keep welding blankets over nearby panels and interiors, and clear the area of thinners and solvent rags before any hot work starts.
Where to put your logo
Embroider the body shop logo on polos and softshells for the estimating team and on reusable coveralls for the workshop. Keep branding off spray suits, as disposables are thrown away. A large printed logo on the back of coveralls is visible to customers looking through the workshop window. FR garments for welding need care, as some prints and threads may affect their performance; we will advise on what suits each garment.
Ordering for body shops and paint sprayers
Most body shops and paint sprayers start with disposable coveralls, coveralls and boiler suits and flame resistant clothing. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
