There is a hygiene side too. Ink splatter, green soap, blood and cling film mean clothes near the station get dirty fast, and cross-contamination rules matter. Practical kit sits underneath the style.
Your artwork is the brand
Studios usually have strong artwork already: a flash-style logo, a skull, a script name. Screen-style print on black tees and hoodies shows detailed linework far better than embroidery, which suits simpler marks on caps and beanies.
Send your artwork as a high-resolution file. Fine linework that looks great on a sheet of flash can fill in when shrunk too small on a chest print, so allow enough size for detail.
Protecting clothes at the station
Artists lean over clients for hours. Black ink barely shows on black, but red, green and white do. A barrier apron over the top keeps ink and blood off your clothes and is easier to change between clients than a whole outfit.
Disposable nitrile gloves are a daily essential. Many studios keep disposable aprons for each client and a fabric branded apron for setup, stencilling and cleaning down.
Merch on the counter and at conventions
Clients often want to rep the studio that did their piece. A small range of tees, hoodies, caps and totes sold at the counter or on conventions keeps your name on the street. Limited runs with a guest-artist design or a convention date sell well. Hoodies and long-sleeve tees often outsell short-sleeve tees once autumn arrives, so plan the range around the season.
Where to put your logo
Print is the right call for most tattoo artwork, because it keeps fine lines and shading that embroidery cannot match. Go for a small chest mark and a big back print on tees and hoodies. Embroidery suits caps, beanies and aprons, using a simplified version of the logo. White or a single bright ink on black looks strong. Ask for a proof to check detail at the real print size.
Ordering for tattoo studios
Most tattoo studios start with cotton T-shirts, pullover hoodies and branded aprons. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
