Club kit for running clubs

Runners notice every gram and every seam. A club vest that rubs at mile eight or holds sweat will not get worn. Kit has to be light, quick-drying and comfortable for anything from a parkrun to a marathon, and it should make club members easy to cheer on from the roadside.

Winter brings a different problem: road sessions in the dark, where being seen by drivers matters more than looking fast. Hi-vis and reflective kit for club runs after dark needs its own plan.

Race vests and wicking tees

Most clubs race in a vest and train in a short or long sleeve wicking tee. Performance fabrics move sweat away from the skin and dry quickly between sessions. Keep prints light and flexible, as heavy transfers on the back of a vest can trap heat and feel stiff.

Women's fit tops with shaped sides and shorter sleeves are worth offering. Many members will not wear a unisex cut for a long race.

Seen on dark winter roads

Tuesday and Thursday club runs in winter often happen on lit and unlit roads after work. A hi-vis top or vest with reflective tape gives drivers far more warning than a dark club hoodie. Leaders at the front and back of groups can wear a hi-vis vest marked 'Run Leader'.

Check your club or national body guidance for group runs at night. Reflective tape must be left clear of any printing so it keeps working in headlights.

  • Hi-vis vest for run leaders at front and back
  • Long sleeve wicking layer for cold evenings
  • Beanie and gloves for icy mornings

Before and after the race

Standing about at the start and in the finish area is cold. A club hoodie or zip jacket, joggers and a drawstring bag for the post-race layers are what members wear at every event, and they make a group easy to find in a crowd of thousands.

Marshals for club-hosted races need hi-vis vests printed with 'Marshal' on the back.

Where to put your logo

Print is best on running vests and wicking tees. A light, flexible print keeps the fabric breathable and does not rub. Put the club name large on the back so spectators can cheer you by name, with a small logo on the front. Save embroidery for hoodies, jackets and beanies worn before and after races. On hi-vis vests, print 'Run Leader' or 'Marshal' on the fluorescent panels only, never over reflective tape.

Ordering for running clubs

Most running clubs start with printed vests and tank tops, performance and wicking T-shirts and women's T-shirts. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.

Questions

Questions from running clubs

Should running vests be printed or embroidered?

Printed. Embroidery adds weight and a stiff patch that can rub over long distances. A thin, flexible print keeps vests light and breathable. Embroidery suits club hoodies, jackets and hats worn away from running.

What should run leaders wear on night runs?

A hi-vis vest or top with reflective tape is the clearest choice for leaders at the front and back of a group. Check any guidance from your club or governing body, and keep logos off the reflective bands.

Can members order their own kit?

Yes. A Client Wardrobe shop lets members order and pay for approved club kit online, so the club secretary is not collecting sizes and cash. You decide which garments and colours are available.
