Humidity near the pool, a warm gym floor and a draughty car park on a winter evening all sit within one shift. The best uniform plans give each role a clear colour or print and let staff layer up or down.
One brand, several roles
A common approach is one garment style across the site with role printed on the back: Reception, Fitness, Duty Manager, Lifeguard. Some centres use a different polo colour per team so members can find a gym instructor quickly. Either works, as long as it is applied consistently.
Duty managers often need a step up, such as a long sleeve polo or a softshell with the centre logo, so they look in charge when dealing with complaints or emergencies.
Coping with heat and humidity
Poolside and gym floors get warm and sticky. Performance polos and wicking tees dry quickly and do not cling the way heavy cotton does. They also cope with being washed constantly. Cotton polos still suit reception, where staff sit under air conditioning for most of the shift.
Shorts are often allowed for fitness and pool roles. Check your own policy and make it clear in your uniform rules which roles can wear them.
Cleaning, set-up and plant room staff
The staff moving trampolines, badminton nets and staging need tougher kit than a reception polo. Workwear polos and work trousers stand up to dragging equipment and kneeling. Anyone handling pool chemicals or going into the plant room should have the PPE their risk assessment calls for, including gloves and eye protection.
Safety footwear may be needed for heavy equipment moves. Slip resistance matters on wet tiled floors, so check soles before buying.
Where to put your logo
Embroider the centre logo on the left chest of polos and softshells; it looks smart and copes with daily washing. Print the role across the back in large letters so members can spot a fitness instructor or duty manager across a sports hall. If your centre is run by a trust or council, a second small logo on the sleeve shows both names without crowding the chest. Keep role colours consistent across sites if you run more than one centre.
Ordering for leisure centres
Most leisure centres start with performance polo shirts, cotton polo shirts and softshell jackets. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
