A coach driver on a week-long tour is also a host, guide and luggage handler. Their uniform is part of the holiday the customer paid for. Kit should reflect that, with smart outerwear and spares for every night away.
Drivers in the cab
Service bus cabs get hot, especially behind a sunlit windscreen, then cold at the terminus with the doors open. A short-sleeve shirt or polo with a V-neck jumper or softshell lets drivers adjust through the day. Comfort while seated matters on long duties.
Smart but practical works best. Easy-care shirts that do not need ironing are popular with drivers who start before dawn.
Coach drivers on tour
Touring and private hire coach drivers often need a smarter look: shirt, tie and a branded jacket. They load luggage at hotels, so outerwear should allow arm movement. Spare shirts for multi-day trips are essential, as hotel laundry is not always an option. A smart softshell or fleece gives warmth at stops and attractions, and a branded umbrella helps when guiding passengers back to the coach.
The depot at night
Depots are busy with buses manoeuvring in tight space, often in poor light. Most operators require hi-vis for anyone on foot in the yard. EN ISO 20471 garments are standard; check your depot's risk assessment for the class.
Engineers need coveralls, safety boots and gloves for pit work, with oil and diesel resistance a plus. Cleaners need tough, washable kit that handles chemicals and wet floors.
Keeping a large team in uniform
With staff on different shifts and sometimes at several depots, ordering can get messy. Set an allowance per role and use one online system so replacements match the originals. Driver allowances often cover a set number of shirts and one jacket per year. Writing this into a simple uniform policy stops arguments and makes it clear when replacements are due.
Where to put your logo
Embroider the operator logo on the left chest of driver shirts, knitwear and jackets. It survives frequent washing and looks professional. Engineers' coveralls can carry an embroidered chest logo with a printed back. On depot hi-vis, print on the fluorescent fabric only, never over reflective tape, and keep the logo modest so the vest stays compliant. Consider role names, such as Driver or Inspector, on the right chest.
Ordering for bus and coach operators
Most bus and coach operators start with poplin and easy-care shirts, jumpers and knitwear and softshell jackets. You can order from one garment and add more as you take people on. The logo price drops at 9 and again at 25 garments, and every garment with a small logo counts towards it, so mixing styles and colours still gets the better price. Before anything is made, we embroider an actual sample of your logo and email you a photo to approve, or you can pop in to our Hull workshop to see it.
